João Gonçalo Soutinho, master in biology, 28 years old. At the age of 20, he became an association leader and founder of the BioLiving Association, where he founded and coordinated the VACALOURA.pt Project, with the aim of studying, with citizens, the state of conservation of Portugal's largest beetle. At the age of 22, she started the Gigantes Verdes project in the municipality of Lousada, to learn about and understand the importance of large trees for biodiversity and to use the information gathered to preserve these trees. In 2021 he co-founded VERDE - Associação para a Conservação Integrada da Natureza, to create and integrate new solutions for nature conservation in Portugal, starting with the protection of Gigantes Verdes through their enhancement. This is also the thematic basis of his PhD at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, starting in 2021.
